Final resting places

Sorry that this doesn’t sound very cheery. I’m also sorry if it sounds a bit “bleak” having it as a “list”. I just think it would be good to have a record of where our nearest and dearest have been buried, cremated, scattered to the winds – especially as many of them/us don’t have a memorial or inscription – so perhaps too easily forgotten otherwise.

If you have any further people you know of that you’d like to be added, just say, and that can easily be done. And of course, if you want to add any memories or monumental inscriptions, or correct anything – just let me know. Thank you folks.

P.S. The list is in alphabetical order, by the (nick)name they were most commonly known. This is to help people find them in the list.

Bobo – George Spencer Hallas, 1893-1972

Cremated at Worthing Cemetery. Bobo’s last home was in Storrington.

Bill – Alexander Spencer Dwerryhouse Burke, 1920-1994

Bill was buried in St Munn’s, Kilmun Churchyard. From memory he’s on the left-hand side up near the top (can anyone add to this/correct me?). His mother, Florence, is also buried there. And I recall that some of Rita’s ashes were placed here, and some with her twin sister Betty, too. Bill and Rita lived along Loch Long at Blairmore.

Granny in Scotland / Granny in Ireland – Florence Burke nee Linton, 1893-1983

Granny in Ireland/Granny in Scotland is buried in St Munn’s, Kilmun. See above. Her last home was in Dunoon.

Growly – John Elliot Scott Hill, 1920-1983

Cremated at Worthing Cemetery. Growly’s last home was in Storrington.

Great-gran – Helen Elizabeth Davies nee Evans, 1916-2002

Great-gran’s ashes were scattered under the Fairy Tree. Great-grandpa’s later joined her.

Great-grandpa – David Albert Davies, 1914-2004

Great-grandpa’s ashes were scattered under the Fairy Tree, joining Great-gran’s. See above.

Isa – Isabella Fyfe Hill nee Ramsay, -1972

Isa died on the Isle of Man.

Mouse – Elizabeth Mary Hallas-Hill nee Hill, 1921-2011

Cremated in Dorset, Mouse’s ashes were scattered on the Downs, the next spring.

Jack – John McPherson, 1888-1951

Jack died in Stirling.

Jenny – Janet McPherson nee Foster, 1887-1957

Jenny died in Spalding, Lincs, as she spent the last 6 weeks of her life with her daughter Betty and family.

Puss – Hilda Mary Hallas nee Jones, 1895-1994

Cremated at Worthing Cemetery. Puss’s last home was in Storrington.

Rita – Rachel Helen Williamson McPherson, 1921-2012

Some of Rita’s ashes are with Bill, at Kilmun. See above. Others are with her twin sister Betty, also Kilmun, who had died in 2009.

Sam – Samuel Ramsay Hill, 1881-1963

Sam died in Bournemouth. This was the place he last lived at.

William Henry Dwerryhouse Burke, 1893-1969

William died in Newton Abbot.
